set up to investigate affair and stop further abuses � many people were exposed
of their dirty tricks � President, white House staff and committee to reelect
president under cloud of influencing IRS to give special attention. To tax
returns of listed enemies to Nixon � they were burglarizing, bugging and
wiretapping against dissenting demonstrators and gov employees and news reports
and invoking principle theory that can override the constitution. Ervin
(chairman of committee) asked for tapes installed in Nixon�s office that taped
conversations � president refused � special prosecutor Cox was appointed by
Nixon to prosecute wo interference but soon found out Nixon withholding evidence
� 1973 Court of Appeals ordered Nixon to deliver tapes � had 5 days grace to
appeal case to SC but during 5 days Cox fired, Attorney general Richardson
resigned, Deputy Attorney Ruckelshaus fired and Robert Book appointed acting
attorney General. Instead of taking to SC Nixon said give over n9 tapes wanted �
tapes were missing info though. Impeachment was brought abt and finally Nixon
gave over tapes that linked him to Watergate for covering up. Instead of being
impeached he resigned. VP Agnew resigned; Yom Kippur War; Energy Crisis.
